Donavon and Valerie at the Governor's Gala - Hosted by Louisiana Family Forum

Posted on: December 13, 2007 by Donavon Hill Related Categories: governor's gala

Tonight, Valerie and I were privileged to attend the Governor's Gala hosted by Louisiana Family Forum (LFF).  Chris and LeDonna Fayard went with us and we had a blast!  The event was held at the majestic old state capital building in downtown Baton Rouge and included a jazz band, super-tasty food, amazing atmosphere, about 45 senior pastors, a lot of other ministry types, LFF staff, some representatives of Family Resource Council (FRC), tons of elected officials, including Governor Kathleen Blanco, Governor-Elect Bobby Jindal and former governors Dave Treen and Buddy Roemer.

This was a stand-up, mixer type of setting with only a few chairs and tables set out.  It was designed for the networker!  I loved it! Val and I were in the buffet line when Gene Mills, the director of LFF had us all freeze wherever we were.  The speaking part of the event was about to begin.  As it did, I looked to my left and Bobby Jindal was standing next to me!  Next to him was Kathleen Blanco  Next to her was Dave Treen!  Next to him was Buddy Roemer!  It was pretty cool (the governor-elect did cut up with us a little)!

Actually, I was blown away at the sincerity, candidness, depth and prominence of faith in all the governors, especially Mrs. Blanco and Mr. Jindal.  Their Katrina and Rita stories were, frankly, phenomenal!  I was blown away!  We got a "behind the scenes" breakdown of what really went down!

I left, having connected with awesome pastors, musicians, elected officials and other wonderful people!  I was encouraged and enthused!  I felt like I was in the right place at the right time!  This was a divine opportunity - thank you Gene Mills for your timely call! and Mike Davis for your encouraging words and the Pastor's Resource Council (PRC)!  Thank you also to Pastor Marvin Poole of Souls Harbor in Hammond - you remain uber-cool!

I have to mention Kirk, Aaron and Amy from Church of the King in Mandeville - the music/worship was incredible!  Rob Rorie told me you guys rocked!  He spoke truth!  Also, Pastor Larry's insight into Governor Jindal's upcoming term was awesome!

Peace and love!
